OWNER & DIRECTOR

Kolton Atkinson

Owner & Director, Whales LC

Kolton Atkinson is a CO-Founder and the director of Whales LC. A Utah native, he grew up in Park City Utah, where he was a two time captain, Utah state champion, and an ALL- American. After high school he attended Westminster University, helping the team to win their first RMAC Championship and finishing 8th in goals for division II in regular season. Kolton was awarded RMAC player of the year his senior year.

Kolton will start his third season as Head Coach for the Skyline Boy’s Lacrosse, his sixth year coaching at the high school level.

Blake Runkle

Originally from Park City UT, Blake Runkle has been the Defensive Specialist coach for Skyline High School for the past 2 years. He has played in all three disciplines of lacrosse at the international level (field lacrosse, box lacrosse, and lacrosse sixes).
A recent graduate, Blake played lacrosse for five years at the Division I level at the University at Albany in New York. During his time at Albany, Blake played close defense, LSM, and D middie.
Blake also plays and is currently the Assistant Director for the US Virgin Islands National team.  After college, he continues to play at the international level. Blake has played for multiple semi-pro box lacrosse teams. Right now, he is training with the USVI to qualify for the 2028 Olympics and is also a member of the local semi-pro box lacrosse team, the Wasatch Whalers.

Jr Barnes

Face off Specialist

Originally hailing from Hopkinton Massachusetts, JR brings over 20 years of lacrosse experience to the coaching staff. He was awarded second team All-American during his high school career. JR played four years of collegiate lacrosse at Plymouth State and University Plymouth New Hampshire in the faceoff position.

Josh Tunick

Offensive Specialist

Josh Tunick is a first-year coach for Whales LC. He has played lacrosse for over 22 years as an offensive midfielder. He grew up in Easton, CT where he won a state championship before moving out to Utah to play at BYU. At BYU he won 2 RMLC conference championships and was voted a 2016 Players’ Captain. He was an assistant coach at BYU in 2018. For the last two seasons he was a captain on the Wasatch Whalers Box Lacrosse Team in the BLL.

Josh loves lacrosse and still plays every chance he gets. He is looking forward to helping players develop a holistic understanding of the game and grow their lacrosse IQ.
